SC/Tetra V7 CFD software has been released and offers
improved operability and new physical models with special appeal to
designers of rotating equipment, HVAC engineers, and anyone modeling
complex geometries.
Improved Physical Models for
Simulating Rotating Equipment Modeling rotating equipment has always
been one of SC/Tetra's major strengths. V7
continues to enhance these capabilities:
o
Multi-moving function.
Two or more rotating or moving conditions can be applied
to a single object. An agitator can
be rotating about an arm which is also rotating around a different axis
o
Freestream driven
rotation or movement. Simulations
can be performed of an object driven by freestream forces.
Windmills and passive valves are examples.
o Overset mesh.
Flow computations use overlapping meshes which eliminates mesh
stretching and shrinking when the mesh moves. This
is ideal for modeling intersecting boundaries such as when gear teeth
engage. This can also be
used to model a moving object that contacts a wall and closes off the
flow path such as a ball or intake valve.
If the
HVAC Air Flow and Temperatures are Right, How Come the Customer isn't
Comfortable?
To
meet the demands of the HVAC engineering community, SC/Tetra V7
contains a human body thermal regulation model that calculates body
skin temperatures, heat transfer to and from the surrounding
environment (including conduction where the body contacts its physical
surroundings), and moisture evaporation. The
user can tailor the model for specific individual characteristics by
specifying the subject's age, gender, % body fat, and metabolic rate.
Human body thermal models are being offered in specialized heat
transfer software; however, SC/Tetra V7 integrates the human regulation
model directly into the CFD software so coupling between the body and
the thermal/fluid environment is seamlessly achieved.
Fully
Integrated Wrapping Functions Slash Days Off Time Required
for Modeling Complex Geometries
SC/Tetra
V7's fully integrated wrapping function
automatically
eliminates
minute physical detail in the model geometry that are not important to
the CFD solution. Wrapping also eliminates overlapping
surfaces that are nuisance artifacts of the CAD process.
Manually performing these tedious processes usually takes
days. Using V7's wrapping function, a complete surface mesh
for highly complex geometries can be generated in minutes.
Integrated wrapping augments SC/Tetra's already powerful grid
generation, and mesh repair and diagnostics capabilties that rival 3rd
party grid generation software.
Post-processing
large CFD models should not look like morphing
Manipulating
large CFD models during post-processing is often like watching an image
morph because response is so slow. SC/Tetra
V7 brings instantaneous response back to post-processing by
implementing a high speed, memory efficient iFLD data format.
A 25 million cell model of a Formula I race car requiring
8GB of computer memory is reduced to 615MB of memory using iFLD format. The new iFLD format improves graphics
performance for both 32 and 64 bit computer architectures.
